The San Francisco ExaminerThings political are waving all over this town, and it is not just because Mayes Oyster House is back at cruising speed. Mind you, many tourists will be confused by the familiar Mayes neon sign on Polk Street and then "O'Reilly's Holy Grail" underneath, but the locals are not. And judging from the crush last weekend, they are finding the place just fine. And so are the piano players, which needs explaining all by itself. More >>> |

On tonight's episode of talk show "OUT Spoken," airing on Comcast cable channel 11 at 6:30pm, "The Right to Marry, One Year Later" co-hosts Tim Gaskin and Janine Shiota talk with Assessor/Recorder Mabel Teng, who oversaw the issuing of marriage licenses to same-sex couples in February 2004, Matthew Bajko, Assistant Editor of the Bay Area Reporter and one of the first to report on Mayor Gavin Newsom's plan to allow gays and lesbians to marry, and Del Martin and Phyllis Lyon, the first same-sex couple to say "I do"! Local filmmaker Debra Chasnoff had just walked into the Women's Educational Media offices on Bryant Street around 9 a.m. last February 12 when her phone rang. On the line was her longtime friend, Joyce Newstat, Mayor Gavin Newsom's policy director. Newstat urged Chasnoff to rush down to City Hall in order to film the first same-sex couple to be married by San Francisco city officials that morning. More >>>

Last week a public forum sponsored by The Center and LGBT Pride Committee met to gain community support for Comcast's new LGBT television offering OUT Spoken. During the spirited discussion portions of OUT Spoken's premiere episode was revealed. Calvin Gipson was enthusiastic.
