Bryant Street Pier Project
Cruise Terminal

San Francisco , with its rich history, beautiful architecture, many outdoor activities and diverse culture, has the potential to become a world-class cruise destination. The new state-of-the-art James R. Herman International Cruise Terminal at The Bryant Street Pier will transform the city into a major West Coast destination for the international cruise line industry.

In designing the new terminal, we worked to create a waterside setting that will not only serve international visitors and the world's fast-growing cruise industry, but also return the water's edge to the people of San Francisco . The 100,000-square-foot terminal will incorporate the latest in technology and design and become a highly visible and impressive gateway to the city for people visiting San Francisco by cruise ship.

SFCT has worked with a team of experts to create a terminal that will benefit both the public and the cruise industry. The result will be a terminal that accommodates world-class cruise lines and provides 215,000 square feet of open space through public plazas, waterfront promenades and terraces.

The James R. Herman International Cruise Terminal will sit on the northern and eastern sides of Piers 30-32, preserving the sunny southside for public enjoyment. Its two berths will accommodate any ship bound for San Francisco in the foreseeable future. Whether you are headed for Alaska or South America , ships and passengers traveling through the terminal will experience the ease and efficiency of world-class service.

Arriving passengers will find their experience both pleasant and easy. The well-designed terminal will provide ample space for disembarking passengers and the storing and collecting of luggage. Passengers awaiting departure will be encouraged to venture outside the terminal to visit the Pier's many retail shops and other points of interest.

Inside the terminal, the "Great Room" - named for its spectacular views of the Bay, Yerba Buena Island and Bay Bridge - will greet passengers on arrival. This multi-faceted room will contain seating and ticket counters, which can be removed during the more than 200 days each year when cruise ships aren't in port.

Keeping in mind SFCT's goal of providing world-class service, the terminal's two berths are designed to make unloading ships quick and efficient. Each berth is equipped with a 50-foot-wide, full-length service area for loading and off-loading of supplies and equipment. This service apron can accommodate all ship-related services and activities and allow ships to dock either port or starboard to the berth. The 850-foot and 1,000-foot berths can accommodate any size or type of cruise ship visiting the facility.

When not being used to welcome cruise ship passengers, the terminal and "Great Room" will serve as a venue for community, civic and private events. Spectacular views of the San Francisco Bay will make this a beautiful, unique site designed for use by up to 1,500 people.
