Subject: Information Regarding Supervisor Tom Ammiano's Proposed Health Care Mandate
Date: Monday, 23 Jan 2006

As many of you know Supervisor Tom Ammiano has introduced an incredibly harmful and potentially devastating piece of health care legislation. The proposed legislation would require ALL San Francisco businesses and non-profits with 20 or more employees including part-time and seasonal workers who work (80 hours or more a month) to pay a mandatory fee to provide health coverage to their employees. This includes businesses that are already providing health care to their employees.

This mandate is expected to cost employers more than $4,000 per employee annually.

On Wednesday, February 1st the Board of Supervisors Budget and Finance Committee will be reviewing and hearing public comment regarding this legislation. The Board of Supervisors Budget and Finance Committee is made up of Supervisors: Bevan Dufty, Aaron Peskin, and Chris Daly (Chair).

Also, please attend the SF Chamber of Commerce's "Supes for Lunch" event on Wed. Jan. 25th from 11:30-12:30pm   w/ Supervisor Aaron Peskin to let him hear the concerns of small business regarding the Ammiano legislation.  Please RSVP to Seide Ouch at [email protected] to attend.

We are urging San Francisco businesses and non-profits to take action:

HOW YOU CAN MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD

Call, write, or email your District Supervisor to voice your concern:  http://www.sfsmallbusinessadvocates.org/contacts.htm

Come to the Budget and Finance meeting on Wednesday Feb. 1st at 1:00 and tell the Supervisors how this mandate will hurt your business.

Talk to your fellow business owners; distribute information and fliers regarding the devastating consequences of a health care mandate.

Write a letter to the editor. How will this legislation affect your business or non-profit?

San Francisco is a city of entrepreneurial diversity. Business owners and non-profits are working toward a health care solution. However, a mandate is not the right way.
