Firm Biography

ARCHITECTS II consists of the husband and wife team of Cindy M. Beckman and James G. Maxwell.  Cindy and James are licensed Architects in the State of California, having both received a Bachelor of Architecture Degree from the California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo.  Their education included a year of Architectural Design studies at the University of Copenhagen in Denmark, with additional research projects in Denmark and France.  Their diverse interests and extensive travels, both in the States and abroad, have had a tremendous influence on their work.  Both are dedicated to providing the highest level of professional service and quality of design to every commission and client.

Cindy M. Beckman - Principal

Cindy Beckman joined ARCHITECTS II in September of 1991 as the controlling principal partner, prior to which she spent four years as a project architect for EKONA Ehrenkrantz Kamages Architecture + Planning in San Francisco.  She has worked in both Northern and Southern California, where her project experience has included custom and single and multi-family production residential, medical, educational, judicial, ecclesiastical, and hospitality design, as well as historic renovation.  Her knowledge of accessibility codes and issues is available for both existing conditions surveys and new project coordination.  A strong interest and experience in photography has combined with her architectural experience to cultivate a clear focus on the composition and detail of the finished architectural product.  Ms. Beckman is available to offer her design and management experience to each and every project at all levels.

James G. Maxwell - Principal

Prior to forming ARCHITECTS II, James Maxwell spent over four years as a head designer and architect at Intermark Design Group, providing in-house architectural services for a San Francisco real estate development company.  He has been responsible for a broad range of projects, including single and multi-family residential, commercial office building, space planning and tenant improvements, historic renovation, and restaurant design.  Before moving to the Bay Area, Mr. Maxwell had his own design consulting business in the Central Valley, where he specialized in custom residential work and retail/food service design.  James is also a licensed General Contractor, which gives him a strong working knowledge of the construction process and value engineering.  His interest in furniture design, coupled with a keen sense of detail and craftsmanship, is reflected in his architectural work.  Mr. Maxwell is available for all phases of work in each and every project.
