Sarah graduated from the University of Michigan in 2003 with degrees in Jewelry Design/Metalwork and Graphic Design. Though a true Midwesterner at heart, Sarah was destined for a cross-country adventure. She first worked as a sculptor’s assistant in Venice, though in her spare time built a workbench in her tiny apartment bedroom and soldered new jewelry designs over the kitchen stove.
Two years later in a better equipped, and larger studio, Sarah developed her first line of marketable jewelry. Taking a leap of faith, she left the sculptor's studio and created Mushka Designs. With the influence of California's diverse environment, her designs range from delicate and natural to strong and industrial. Sarah uses a combination of hammer forming techniques including those learned in college as well as those invented after hours of experimentation. Her ultimate desire is for her jewelry to reflect the strength and beauty of the world around her
