Magma is a distinctive line of lamp-worked glass jewelry. Each one-of-a-kind piece is individually hand-crafted by Blake Van Roekel in her Portland, Oregon studio through gentle manipulation of molten glass and metal with fire. Magma is inspired by the sum of Blake’s experience, from her grandfather who introduced her to the art of expression through a paintbrush, to the wild beauty of her favorite stretch of Pacific Northwest coastline. Even in its cooled state, glass, like magma, is in constant motion and thus profoundly resonates for Blake with the themes of continuous transformation and evolution. Blake endeavors to infuse her colorful beads with the intangible qualities of beauty, vitality, and passion in the hope of igniting these qualities in the wearer.
Blake Van Roekel is a Portland, Oregon native. She studied Art History and worked in arts and culture non-profit management before committing to her art full-time.In addition to creating a unique line of colorful, modern jewelry, Blake also offers classes, lectures, and demonstrations in the craft of glass bead-making at the Magma studio and showroom.
