I was raised in Michigan by creative parents who were artists with backgrounds in fashion design. There was always painting, sculpting, and the designing of clothing while living at home. At a young age, I learned how to paint, sculpt in clay, and to sew my own clothes. As an undergraduate, I studied at Interlochen Arts Academy majoring in sculpture and minoring in music. I continued my education at Northern Michigan University, and then transferred to San Francisco Art Institute, where I continued my passion for sculpture. I have worked in a variety of mediums including welding, fiber arts, ceramics, photography, jewelry, and painting, My education and extensive traveling experiences have greatly influenced the pieces I create.
In the late 1980's I started to bead and since then have created a wide variety of jewelry using different mediums. I look at my beading as sculptural. With each new piece there is a tapestry that is woven of color, shape, light and texture. Even though I design each piece there is always a mixture of surprise and new joy when I finish. It is the discovery of the stones’ unique harmony that is delightful. My inspiration comes from the material mother nature herself provides. New material..a new world to explore...a new hidden treasure to find.
I have sold my work in a variety of venues, mostly in southern California, but I find that people will stop me in the grocery store or Home Depot to ask about my necklaces, offering to buy them right off of me. My work now focuses on necklaces that are beautifully created with wire and gems. Pieces range from elegant, to ethnic, to whimsical. I can customize to a range of colors, sizes, and lengths on request.
