Davide Bigazzi is a metalsmith from Florence, Italy. A recipient of the International Artisans Award, he is respected by his peers for his mastery of chasing and repoussè, the fine art of creating sculpted bas-relief designs. Using this ancient technique he handcrafts wearable and functional art of sterling silver and gold by forming both organic and contemporary shapes that incorporate texture and volume, curve and movement, light and shadow.
His respect for metal goes back to his childhood in the Florentine neighborhood of Santa Croce, rich with artisans working just as they did in the 16th century. Davide's intrigue with metal was recognized early by the renowned Florentine sculptor and jeweler, Bino Bini, and at the age of fourteen, Davide became his apprentice. For five years Davide developed his skills under the tutelage of this master, becoming at the age of 19 an insructor at the International School of Metal Arts in Florence.
His design career soon took off, and for the next six years he worked as a designer for leading fine silver studios and received commissions by Italian fashion houses including Gucci. Davide's designs could be found worldwide. In 1996 he started his own signature collection.
Currently Davide is residing and working from a second studio in San Diego, California except during the summer months, when his Tuscan heritage calls him back to the land that has inspired so many of his designs.
