Anastasia Trainer practices her own brand of alchemy in a small studio in Oakland, using fire to transform gold and silver into a jewelry collection of delicate spirals and organic forms. Hers is a combination of art and science, heavily influenced by the spiral motif, a symbol that represents not only continuity, but also cyclic change and rebirth.
Anastasia first became interested in her craft as a high school student in a jewelry-making class. "Once I saw metal melt for the first time in a crucible [a vessel used for melting metal at high temperatures], I was hooked," Anastasia explains. Indeed, fire is the element that inspires Anastasia's creativity. During what she describes as her "bohemian travels," Anastasiawas a fire dancer with a performing arts troupe in Copenhagen, dancing with flaming batons and eating fire.
Upon her return to the United States , Anastasia moved to California to attend the Revere Academy of Jewelry Arts in San Francisco , where she learned professional jewelry skills from talented masters. To build upon the technical skills she received, she is currently studying fine arts at California College of Arts.
