From a family of Armenian jewelers, Alen Lapierre is the craftsman behind Lapierre Jewelry. He grew up learning how to make jewelry from his uncles at their workshop in Istanbul. At age five he was making chain from wire loops. By age fifteen he was a full time jeweler and wax modelmaker. Alen works in platinum, gold, and silver and is an expert enameler. Amy Lapierre is the primary designer of the company. She studied Art History and Latin at Barnard College and jewelry making at the Jewelry Arts Institute, School of Visual Arts, FIT, and the Craft Students League in New York. She worked in the jewelry industry first selling and later managing high volume wholesale production for several jewelers. She has won a Buyer's Market Merit Award and a scholarship from Haystack Mountain School of Crafts. Alen and Amy Lapierre's workshop is in Manhattan's jewelry district on West 47th Street, where they met.
